The Department

The undergraduate program in Discipleship Counseling seeks to accomplish three main objectives. The first is to assist students in obtaining the foundational knowledge necessary to effectively promote Christian character growth in others. The second is to aid in the development of interpersonal relational skills. The third objective is to help students acquire the self-awareness necessary to effectively promote Christian character growth in others.

The Programs

The Christian Counseling Department offers two courses of study: a four-year curriculum which leads to a B.S. in Bible degree and a dual-level curriculum in which the student simultaneously earns a B.S. in Bible and an M.S. in Christian Counseling. In both curricula, students take the core classes in Bible and theology and the arts and sciences. In addition, four-year Discipleship Counseling students take eighteen credits of counseling classes and fifteen credits of youth ministry, social work, and church ministry classes. Dual-level students take fifteen credits of undergraduate counseling classes and twelve credits of youth ministry, social work, and church ministry classes. These classes form a core of people helping skills and knowledge. The dual-level program builds on this core by adding graduate classes in individual, marriage, and group counseling as well as numerous specialized topics available in seminars and electives. Students in the dual-level program also attend labs that afford them an opportunity to practice the skills being learned in class.
