With specialization in International Education or Teaching English to Speakers
of Other Languages (TESOL)
Students who qualify may enter the dual-level program and earn both a bachelor’s
degree and master’s degree in a reduced amount of time (normally 5 years and 2
summers). Any of the eleven certification programs may be modified into an integrated
bachelor’s/master’s program. State of Pennsylvania and ACSI teaching certificates
can be earned as well. Upon completion of the program, the student receives a
B.S. in Bible degree and an M.S. in Education degree along with the appropriate
teaching certificate(s).
Fourteen credits of core education courses are taken at the graduate level concurrently
with the undergraduate junior and senior years. An additional 18 graduate credits
are taken in the final semester (fifth year) and in one or two summers on the
European or Pacific Rim campuses of PBU. Eight of the final 18 credits are taken
in one of two specializations: International Education or TESOL.
Half of the student teaching experience (seven weeks) is completed in an international
setting in one of the major regions of the world in a national, international,
or mission school. The program both prepares and seasons the teacher to be ready
to take a position abroad immediately upon graduation. TESOL students will practice
teach in several venues including some oversees, if they so desire.
