MCC 855 - Counseling and Communicating with Contemporary Youth


This course is designed to introduce students to effective procedures for understanding and addressing the unique developmental crises and tasks adolescents face. It explores strategies for assessing the psychological needs and problems of adolescents, as well as the skills needed for addressing these through counseling, group, skill-building, social and instructional interventions. Special emphasis is given on understanding today’s youth culture and developing a “street-smart” approach to building relationships with youth.
